Genre and medium: Painting and mixed media
Three large rambunctious dogs greet the visitor to Jane’s studio, a bungalow turned into painting workshops. The living room, painted a bright blue and well lit by a picture window, contains artist’s tools: a light table in the corner, a plastic storage unit, and shelves overflowing with tubes of paint, and a TV. Paint is smudged or splattered on the floor, a red handprint is isolated high on one wall, patterns akin to graffiti run down the hallway. In summer and fall the artist’s work on large pieces may spill outside into the yard to take advantage of the open space, the light and plant life that is so important to her work. A self-portrait is propped in the window, and works by artist-friends who have dropped by for paint-ins hang on the walls.
